Must See: I found a baby wombat

Is this the cutest animal you have ever seen, Reader?

It's certainly the cutest that I have ever photographed.

It's a baby common wombat, photographed a few days ago on a small island off the East Coast of Tasmania.

If you'd like to read more about this image, such as what the settings were and which lens I used, I made it the subject for my latest Behind the Shot post:

For those that missed last week's newsletter, I also want to remind you to check out the review of Think Tank's latest backpack for nature photographers.

I had exclusive access to it before launch, so my review is the only place to go right now to get a detailed look and an honest opinion about the new FirstLight+ pack.

One more thing...

I had a couple of questions this week about quick-release systems to swap tripod heads. I had written about this in the past, but the fresh questions led me to refresh that previous article. You can find it here:

-->> How to Quickly Swap Tripod Heads, and Why You Might Want To

Cheers and happy shooting,

A black-chinned hummingbird from last year's workshop. Hello Reader, Last year, I led a fantastic photo workshop alongside Aaron Baggenstos to photograph the beautiful hummingbirds of British Columbia. We stayed in a beautiful mountain lodge, ate great food, made new friends, and shot thousands and thousands of photos. It was such a blast that we're doing it again in June, and we still have a couple of spaces available. A stunning male calliope hummingbird from last year's workshop. A female...

Sony 300mm f/2.8 = 1.4x Teleconverter Hello Reader, I have owned the Sony 300mm f/2.8 GM lens for around 12 months. It sits on my shelf amongst my other Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Fujifilm lenses, giving me a great perspective on its performance. This is a lens designed for sports and wildlife photographers. And yet, nobody would say 300mm is enough focal length for serious shooting of either genre. Why the dichotomy? Focal length flexibility is the key. With teleconverters, you have: 300mm...
