Hello Reader,
When I got my new iPhone 15 Pro Max last week, I was eager to see how to incorporate the phone's new USB-C port into my photography workflow.
At first, I experimented with backing up my camera directly to a portable SSD, using the iPhone to manage the files and folders. I'll write more about that next week. In the meantime, I wanted to tell you about another unexpected discovery I haven't seen anyone else discuss.
I connected various Sony, Nikon, and Canon cameras to my phone during my experiments and discovered that most can be charged from the iPhone's internal battery, as long as you know how.
Very handy in an emergency!
If you forget to take a spare battery and run out of juice during your shoot, you could add enough charge to your camera from your phone to get you to the end of the day.
Here's how to do it: >> How to Charge Your Camera From Your iPhone
(And yes, I know I'm alienating Android users here. I'm sorry about that. I guess this works with some Android phones, but I can't be certain. If you try it, and it works, please leave a comment on the post.)
Don't forget the 5DayDeal Photography Bundle is running right now. For the next day or so, you can get $2200+ of photography training for just $98. Most photographers will miss out on this great deal. You shouldn't. Get all the details here.
Hope you all had a great weekend, wherever you are.
Dan

Hello Reader, A couple of months ago I emailed about the outrageously good teleconverter performance of the Sony 300mm GM lens. Knowing how much I enjoy using this lens compared to my 600mm f/4, it got me thinking: should I buy a second one? I know that sounds crazy, but a pair of them would be lighter and cheaper than a 600mm f/4 lens, and using the teleconverters would give me nice combinations of 300mm, 420mm, and 600mm focal lengths. I decided to pull on this thread a little more, so...
Hello Reader, Peak Design's Travel Tripod was a huge success when it launched in 2019. The new Pro Lite, Pro, and Pro Tall carbon tripods have twice the weight...
